1. Choose a textbook for novice or intermediate-level learners in your target language. Prepare an evaluation report about the textbook.

2. Use the following checklist for your textbook evaluation. This is your guide on how to 'look at' an L2 textbook.

3. Besides the checklist, prepare a narrative (no more than two pages) addressing the following issues. Include book info in citation form, such as MLA or APA.

  • Does the textbook design meet the goals and objectives stated in its preface/introduction?
  • Highlight some features of the textbook that you like most. Explain your rationale. Are there any weaknesses in the textbook design?
  • Choose one to respond:
    • Would you recommend the textbook for use, for example, for ____________ (language) 1010 or 2010 at MTSU? Is there anything you'd like to supplement if it were used for ____________1010 or 2010 at MTSU?
    • Would you recommend the textbook for use, for example, ________________ (elementary, middle, or high school level)? Is there anything you'd like to supplement if it were used for ________________?

4. Use ChatGPT to check the quality of your draft and seek suggestions for improvement. For example, you can follow the steps below and use the following prompts to ask ChatGPT for feedback.
